Beste Wim. De conclusie is geheel juist. Groeten Kees

Hoi,

mvg Mick

Greetings Wim, (Sorry, I speak English only, hope that is ok).

Have you considered the idea of a plastic 15T chainring in place of the Flevo roller, since the O-rings wear out so quickly and the alternative (Terracycle) is so noisy? Suitable materials might be Acetal or PVC perhaps.

I have started a mini-project to produce a 15T chain wheel from a section of PVC rod, 76 mm dia. Not easy to do with basic machine tools. The profile would be similar to a deraileur jockey wheel, which also appear to be made of a type of plastic.

Any thoughts on this? I think it may run fairly quiet since it's on plastic, but will not wear so easily as the rubber O-ring. Hopefully somewhere in between the Terracycle and Flevo.

I appreciate your blog very much and read it extensively for the latest news and information. Very well done.

Hi Mark,

Greetings Wim, (Sorry, I speak English only, hope that is ok).

Wim: English is OK Mark.

Wim: Yes, I did. And it is available now from Alligt. It is glassfibre reinforced plastic 15T chainring with two rubber O-rings on both sides of the chainring. The O-rings now lasts about 5000 km and can be changed in a few seconds by using my new dividible device.

I have started a mini-project to produce a 15T chain wheel from a section of PVC rod, 76 mm dia. Not easy to do with basic machine tools. The profile would be similar to a deraileur jockey wheel, which also appear to be made of a type of plastic.

Wim: As earlier said, the product is available. The only small withdraw is that the new Alligt chainwheel is 68 mm and a little too big on one side. The maximum width of the flange on one side can be 64 mm. With this width the chainwheel can slide over the axle to keep the chain in a straight line and thus result in a quiet Quest or Strada.

Wim: Thanks for this.
Best regards,
Wim

Hi Mark,
The new chainwheel from Alligt is good visible in their new video at:

Hi Wim,

See, that's why I look to you first! You have the latest and best information.

I had noticed the Alligt unit before, but didn't realize it was made of FRP.

Regardless, I think I will continue with making my own as I can size it to fit. Also, I'd like to increase the bearing ID and OD size, and also allow the wheel to slide on the shaft to maintain better chain alignment.

There's a number of experimental modifications and improvements I'm implementing now, including: large diameter Delrin bushings for the rear swingarm; air shock/strut for the rear wheel; plastic tie rods for the steering. I don't expect them all to work better, but hopefully some weight reduction...

All the best, Mark
