SKF E2 lagers lopen echt lichter

Hello Wim
Installed the bearings on one frontwheel and made some measurements. Rotated the wheel up to about 60 km with an electric drill and measured the time to standstill.
Standard bearings and one wheelcover time 1 min. 40 sek.

SKF E2 without wheel cover 3 min. 40 sek.
SKF E2 with one wheel cover 3 min. 50 sek.
SKF E2 with cover both sides 4 min. 45 sek.

Conclusion. The bearings must be great compared to the old ones. It also seems that covering both sides of the wheel is an advantage probably both on Mango, Strada and Quest. The F-lite tire was beautiful but a bit to fat in the front. I will test it at the rear.

My velomobil is homebuilt and made mainly from carbon fiber. It is equipped with an 8 speed Shimano nexus hub and an electric assist at the intermediate drive. This combination works great. The velomobil I believe is about as good as a Strada regarding streamlining. I am doing small changes all the time to improve it and it is very inspiring to read your blog despite I am not so god at the Dutch language.
Kind regards
Henry

Hello Wim
Yes real performance is under load but I think it says something to spin the wheel. It seems that the claim of 50 percent reduction of bearing resistance could be true. The difference in air resistance with 2 and 1 cover is the same. I found the same difference when I did spin my wheel of my 2 wheel streamliner.

Anyhow I got new figures after running just 1 kilometer under load.

Left wheel with one cover improved from 3 minutes 40 to 5 minutes. Right side which was better from the beginning with more work with the bearing installation because not satisfied at first has now improved to 8 minutes and 40 with one cover and a full 10 minutes with two.

I believe it,s not easy to detect the difference on the road but I believe that by making small difference where you can with tires, rims, wheel openings, wheel covers, drive system ,bearings and so on it will together make a noticeable difference.
Kind regards
Henry
